Hi, my name is Ozzie and I really would love to spend the holidays with my new forever family! Will you give me a chance? I had a family before that I loved since I was a baby, for 4 whole years! But then, back in July they didn’t want me anymore, they even said they would put me to sleep if the rescue didn’t take me! Boy am I glad they did save me! I got to go to a foster home and I love it there, but, it’s just not the same as having my very own family again, you know? I’m gonna let my foster mom tell you more about me now and I hope to meet you soon! Oh, you can text her also if you have more questions at 714 224 9432.
Meet Ozzie! This beautiful sweet 4 year old Shepherd has been a joy to have as a foster guest! He is well mannered, knows many commands, walks great on a leash and is non destructive when left alone. We never crate him and he sleeps through the night on his doggie bed without any problems. He is completely housebroken. Ozzie weighs about 80 pounds and is non reactive to other dogs in the home and on walks, he basically ignores them if they stay out of his space and even if they want to play with him, he usually says ‘no thank you, I’d rather play ball with my human friends’. Except his new crazy puppy foster sister, he loves wrestling and playing tug of war with. If Ozzie were to live with other pets, he needs to be fed separately and be allowed his own private time alone to chew on bones or play with toys. He does not like sharing anything of high value to him. Like, food and chews 😊
Ozzie loves some dogs, like his young and active playful foster sister, he enjoys playing with. He would not mind being an only dog either though. Ozzie definitely needs a good sized yard to run in and someone to play fetch with, balls are his favorite. This boy has a lot of energy and can get a bit anxious at times, especially if he hasn’t gotten enough exercise. Ozzie will need an experienced owner to give him enough exercise, mental stimulation, structure and a consistent routine. We adore this boy, he is a great dog and very loving and loyal. No apartments/condos! Ozzie has lived with a cat before supposedly without issues. He shows a prey drive outside though, chasing birds and wants to chase little dogs so guessing he’d chase a running cat outside also but would ignore it indoors if properly introduced. I would not recommend him around very small dogs, nothing under 30 pounds maybe.
Ozzie's ideal forever home would not have a lot of foot traffic, not many people in and out of the house constantly as he will need to be properly and slowly introduced to strangers. Ozzie does take some time to warm up to new people and may even try to nip if a stranger gets too close to him and makes him feel worried. Ozzie should therefor wear a good fitting muzzle in public if close contact with people can not be avoided. This special boy will require several meet and greets with potential adopters to get to know you and feel comfortable with you. Once he knows you he is the best most loving and fun boy!
So if you are looking for a dog to take to crowded restaurants or family gatherings and parties, Ozzie is not your man. If you are looking for a great family dog (children over 6 please, just due to his size and energy level), love throwing balls and cuddling with a big teddy bear, go hiking with or just love having fun with a playful sweet natured loyal companion, Ozzie will be your best friend and make you laugh every day. Ozzie is 4 years old, 82 pounds, neutered, microchipped and UTD on all vaccines.
