How do you prepare yourself for a new dog? What kind of dog do you choose for your life and situation? Shed or no shed, young or old, big or small. There’s a crazy number of questions to ask yourself and whomever is helping you find your future bff.
If you’re a high energy family who hikes and camps, swims or off roads… then maybe a chihuahua isn’t for you unless you plan to wear it in a pouch while clinging precariously to a rock wall 😂 but, maybe a husky is. Is Netflix and chill your favorite sport? Then maybe a mastiff or a lap dog is more your speed.
It all starts with which breed is right for you. Pinpointing which breeds interest you most and then stuffing your face like it’s Thanksgiving dinner with knowledge is the right way to go to make the decision on what dog will be right for you in the long term. Countless times in rescues we see humans decide on what they think is cute and furry but find out later is also insane and chaotic and they aren’t prepared for what comes with that breed.
Know your lifestyle and who you are as a human/family before you decide on the right pup for you. Ask questions, take your time and make sure you know what you are taking on. I promise your life will be a 100 times better if you’re armed with knowledge than it will be if you pick up a dog on a whim. (Which I’ve never ever done… a dozen times or more 😁😂).
