Dog momming can be terrifying but human babies… well, I’m still barely surviving that, and my kids are old enough to drink wine with me. 😂
So I get it. You find out you’re pregnant and suddenly that Rottweiler or GSD or semi rabid chihuahua who was your bff now seems like a velociraptor from Jurassic Park. The anxiety sets in, and your first instinct is to rid yourself of the potential monster.
But wait…. A) let’s not label your sweet baby just yet, and B) hey, there’s help to make that relationship magic potentially! Surprise! You may not have to give up a fur baby to protect your future temporarily naked mole rat/human baby. 😁😂
There are so many things that can help things along. Before you come home, bring your baby’s scent to your dog so it’s not a surprise when it shows up. When you come home reward your dog for any positive interest in your baby. (Example: eek you sniffed the baby and didn’t eat it… here’s a steak… and that sort of thing).
Not all dogs are going to be phased or have a negative reaction to this new addition. For myself, I had the most protective Beagle who hated everyone and my husband at the time (good riddance) but when I brought home my youngest son, he set up watch next to his crib and never left. It was love at first smell. ❤️
