You have just adopted a dog and a couple of days into the experience, you wonder how you ever lived without your new friend. A Harris poll shows that 95% of Americans consider pets part of the family, and that means one important thing when Fido’s birthday comes around: it’s a great reason to party! If this year is a landmark birthday for your pooch and you’d like to do something a little out of the ordinary, these inspirational tips may help. Your pooch brings so many benefits to your life that it is only logical to make his birthday something ‘out of the ordinary’.
Bring Fido’s Friends Along
If you have adopted a pooch, you may have noticed that he has made many canine friends in a short space of time. British dog lover, Helen Turner, recently made the news when she threw a £4,000 birthday party for her chihuahuas. The Mexican-themed event included sombreros for all, a clown, and face painting. More importantly for her fur babies, it included their friends – all of which enjoyed doggy treats and lots of pampering love from all the humans in attendance.
Preparing a Homemade Doggy Cake
Dog friendly cakes are healthy yet cute. They are almost de rigueur in the age of Instagram, so start honing your cake layering skills and find a nice background to capture your pooch ‘blowing out’ his fire-free candles. A homemade dog cake can be made in typical round pans and layered for a towering cake that will impress human guests as much as the canine ones. You can also use a loaf pan instead, cutting the cake afterwards into a bone shape. A healthy cake is easy to make and comprises a small list of ingredients – including whole wheat flour, baking soda, natural peanut butter, vegetable oil, honey, shredded carrots, and egg. The cake takes around half an hour to bake, which is handy for busy humans.
Choosing a Theme
As mentioned above, one dog lover thought that a Mexican theme would be perfect for her dog’s breed. However, you may have adopted a mixed breed dog or decide to totally bypass your dog’s breed and simply select a fun theme that your human guests will enjoy. Some cute themes include Hollywood (can you see your pooch in an Elvis or Batman outfit?), Scooby Doo, and Snoopy. Make sure there are fun games for humans but don’t forget doggies, either. They should have energetic games like fetch, frisbee, and other games to help them release energy.
After your pooch has enjoyed his cake and all the Elvises have left the building, one burning question remains: what do you think your dog would really want, if he could choose just one thing to do with what remains of his special day? Spend time with you outdoors would probably win hands-down, unless you have a sofa loving pooch who loves nothing more than a good nap. To make this birthday memorable, simply head to your favorite spot.
